I am now fully caught up!
As you might expect, I am in pieces. Wow. My OTP hurts so much. DDDDDD: Dean and Cas do have a profound bond that's exactly the reason things are so fucked up.
Possibly unpopular opinion: Cas is one of the best things to happen to SPN's storytelling in a long time. Cas allows them to do conflict, to do amazing heartbreaking storylines that aren't about Dean and Sam fighting. Angst, story, conflict, *and* epic brotherliness from Sam and Dean. Even Wincesters should be grateful for what Cas has done for the show.
Also I want to send a fruit basket to whoever came up with this storyline. It's like Evil!Cas, except it's completely in character and totally understandable and you can't even really blame him even though you can see where it's all gone wrong. If you'd told me I would be this in love with a season where Cas is the Big Bad, I would have laughed, but right now I am eating it up like pudding.
Random observation: Cas's heaven is an autistic man's heaven. This supports my "Cas is the Asperger's Angel" hypothesis. :)
Things other people said that I find really interesting:
Someone pointed out that the lightbulb exploding over Sam at the end of 5x22 is not because Sam is supernatural, but because Cas is there. WOW.
Also, someone pointed out that all Cas's "I have no choice" stuff is not true, he had lots of choices. I now want a Cas's Choices Fic Meme. How else could it have gone? GIVE ME FIC.
The Titanic gave Cas 50,000 new souls. Crowley lent Cas 50,000 souls to start his war. CROWLEY IS CAS'S LOAN SHARK. I WANT THIS FIC TOO.
Cas really is a baby in a trenchcoat. He's a child, an amazingly powerful child, being expected to make decisions that affect the course of the entire world with decision-making skills that are brand-new and untested. ....for some reason an Ender's Game plot bunny just popped into my head...
My personal question:
Cas says something in throw-away that I haven't seen explained. He says "you and I are going to keep dying over and over until this ends." WTH does that mean? Seriously. Am I missing something? Do they just mean Crowley's faked death and Cas's multiple resurrections? Or is this all going to go even deeper down the rabbit hole?
