Drive-by update! Vroom!
(1) German diction is kicking my ass. Blargh. We're doing Brahms' Liebeslieder waltzes at the moment, which are all very pretty and would actually be quite easy, if Chorale Director didn't want us to sightread four-part harmony with perfect German pronunciation for twelve different waltzes *per rehearsal.* I have nothing against German but I speak it only slightly better than the average housecat. Why can't we sing in Latin some more? I knew Latin. *pouts*
(2) I got dumped by my TA job. *cries* Okay not really. Basically they only needed me because there weren't enough junior grad student slaves to do the TAing, so they had to hire senior students. But now there are, or something, so I'm no longer necessary. Which is...good and bad. I was actually hoping this would happen, because it took up a lot of time, but now that it has I'm like NOOO I LOVE TEACHING I WILL MISS MY KIIIIIDS. Self, make up your mind.
(3) I finally learned the name of one of the guys I talk to all the time on the bus. Enochian sigils will now always make me think of jovial Nigerian guys. (Jovial Nigerian guys who are religious studies majors and who tell me Bible stories while waiting in line for a cheeseburger! This is my permanent mental picture of Enoch.)
(4) Lastly, poll! Does anyone out there use/understand the phrase "dog in a manger?" And where are you from? I am trying to determine if this is a regional thing or whether I am getting Britishisms in my American again.
chorale,
