so i finished reading (and fb-ing) all the sesa stories in the wee hours last night/this morning, and now i come bearing my yearly recs. :D there was a ton of chris!stories this year, holy crap, which was fantastic, and also a whole slew of vampire/supernatural stories, which was even better! ♥ so here we go!
first of all, i'm obviously going to have to insist that everyone drop what they're doing, like, ten minutes ago, and read
temperance, which was written for me, and is totally epic juni involving fake dating that turns real, vampires, and TONS OF AWESOME. no, honestly, it's like a western action/romance/comedy/drama/family fic, only BETTER.
also, while we're at it, i'd just like to point out that the juni haul this year is enough to make a girl cry happy tears.
playing the numbers is so awesome, it defies description. i loved it; it was like falling in love with nick and jutin both, and both their bands on top of that, and the entire last bit had me aww-ing and beaming all over the place.
public relations, aj/nick, and i know this may not be everyone's cup of tea, but this is HILARIOUS, and--i mean, there are POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS INVOLVED, YOU GUYS. how do you not fall in love with that right off the bat? also involved? hilarity and more fake!dating (IDEK, it's like santa read my sesa wishlist and said, "ask and ye shall receive." ♥ ♥ ♥) and TOTAL, UTTER WIN.
i'm also reccing both kevin/aj stories this year, surprise, surprise!
not a creature was stirring is awesome, a little character piece that explores aj and the aj/kevin dynamic kind of fantastically. it's like a sucker punch; so much power in one tiny package!
for this world to be unbroken is vampire-induced apocalytic fic, and holy crap, you guys, talk about two of my favourite things in the same story! it's awesome, from the action, to the twists (that i absolutely did not see coming, hi), to that epic, epic ending. so much love for this story, i cannot even say.
i also loved both choey stories, even though it's not a pairing i usually read. just--
this is where the party's at is one of the first stories i read, and straight away i knew i was going to love it. it's brilliantly funny, and smart, and AWESOME, and i don't want to say anything that'll give it away because that'll ruin half the fun, but there are superheroes involved! HOW DOES THAT NOT MAKE YOU WANT TO READ THIS ASAP?
dazed and confused is pretty much an ode to the entire chris/joey dynamic, and it's breathtaking, gorgeously written and realistic and heartbreaky in all the right places. like i could help falling in love with them after this.
and if the previous story is an ode to choey,
sparkly crack is an ode to fandom in general, and also to camp sparkle, and i laughed SO HARD reading this, idek. this was awesome, okay, and crude-o is possibly the most amazing game ever created. :D
answers to the questions is trickyfish, and so much fun to get into! i mean, it starts out with a radio interview transcript, you guys, come on! also, i think i've figured out who the author is (and without cheating even, ha!) and i just enjoy her style so much, like i have every year prior to this, and--yeah. plus, this is how-things-could've-turned-out-if-n'sync-hadn't-taken-off fic, which sort of made me ache through the entire thing, and wound up being totally amazing.
also, there was an entire slew of trickc this year, and i do love my trickc, so that was awesome! i really enjoyed
oranges on apple trees, though, because hi, awesome characterization! and also, the chris/kevin and chris/lance interactions? priceless. the entire inter- and intra-group dynamics were fantastical. i love when people use canon to their advantage, and this story does that brilliantly.
for the grand finale, and i saved it for last, because you kind of need to clear your schedule for at least a couple of hours to read this epic 30,000 word basez, called
from mama c's guide to intergalactic etiquette, chapter one: don't look a gift newt in the mouth. it's been so long since i've read basez that i'd almost forgotten why i love the pairing, and this story makes me want to break out in basez song and interpretive dance, okay. it's--you know there are these stories that get more and more awesome as you read them, and you're just like, holy crap, there is NO WAY THIS STORY IS THAT GOOD. but that it gets even more fantastic. and you're, like, holy crap, THERE IS NO WAY THIS COULD GET ANY MORE AWESOME, except it does, what the actual fuck, and it blows your mind from beginning to end, AND THIS STORY IS THAT STORY, OKAY, THIS, BECAUSE ALIEN MPREG, ALIEN MPREG THAT YOU ACTUALLY ROOT FOR, AND FALL IN LOVE WITH, AND BREAK OUT THE CAPSLOCK FOR, AND--jfc, idek anymore. last year, there was papa was a rodeo, and letters to prague the year before that, and now. now. just, yeah, you guys. this needs to be read.
