Rosetta Stone Update - Better

It went better the second time.  Being able to hash through the alphabet made a real difference.  It did take me three hours to go through the first lesson but that's because I was writing down vocabulary words and practicing how to say them over and over and over again (found RS has a feature that helps with this).  I also turned the speech recognition setting up towards difficult instead of normal.  I don't want to get into made pronunciation habits, but trying to say 믈 (water), which sounds like trying to say mule with a mouth full of marbles, is tricky.

It seemed that I was making connections between what I heard and the written characters and then that to the pictures, and then took the alphabet out of the middle.  I could listen to a sentence without looking at the written words and recognize the meaning.  And I picked up on an article and what I think was a conjugation for to drink and to eat.

One thing confused me, though.  Translators tell me  밥을 means rice but not all of the people in the pictures were eating rice; so I'm not sure if the pictures are inaccurate or if 밥을 has two meanings: rice and eating.  That, at least, I can ask when I get there.

I haven't taken the second lesson so we'll see if this success was due to having seen the material before or if knowing the alphabet made a difference.  I'm hoping the later.  I'm pretty sure I'm a visual kinesthetic learner (I learn best by seeing and doing) which would explain why simply hearing didn't get anything to stick in my brain.

But, let's hope it doesn't take me three hours to get through each lesson!
