Character Background: Not a lot is known about Puck’s personal life. Bits and pieces about his background were revealed as the first two seasons progressed, such as the fact that Puck’s dad left his family, and now it’s just him, his mom, and his younger sister.

When we first meet Puck in the pilot episode, he is a high school student and football player at William McKinley High School. He doubles as a pool cleaner on the side. But he’s more than just a football player - he’s an arrogant jock with a penchant for bullying. The scene in which he is introduced shows him dumping Kurt Hummel into a dumpster, and that seems to be par for the course with Puck. As a football player, Puck’s at the top of the social pyramid. Besides, most people are afraid of him, since he’s pretty much a bully. So one way or another, Puck has a lot of clout within the school.

But the status quo begins to shift, starting with Will Schuester’s efforts to restart the school’s glee club. Will stops by the football team’s locker room to try and convince the guys on the team to join the club. But Puck quickly speaks up, very clearly demonstrating where he thinks Will’s place is on the social hierarchy; he tells the unsuspecting Will that he can sing, but instead of actually singing, he loudly passes gas. To Puck’s surprise, one of the football players, Finn Hudson, ends up joining the glee club. This sets off Puck and the others on the team, leading them to take “revenge” on Finn, even going to the extreme of attacking him with paintball guns.

But in a twist, Will decides to resign, giving up on his hopes of reviving the school’s glee club, and Finn rejoins the football team. The team’s way of welcoming Finn back is to trap Artie Abrams, who is confined to a wheelchair thanks to a car accident, in a porta-potty. But Finn refuses to participate in this act, which angers Puck, leading him to ask whether Finn is going to be involved with glee club or football. Finn’s response is that he’ll participate in both.

Later on, we learn a little more about Puck and the way he thinks; we see that he has joined the school’s celibacy club, but he obviously doesn’t believe in practicing celibacy. Throughout the second episode, some things happen that cause Puck’s opinion of glee club to shift, namely the sexually-charged performance that the glee club puts on during a school assembly. This causes Puck to change his mind about singing in glee club, since he sees it may help him attract girls. This is why Puck joins the all-male group Acafellas, because he hopes to attract some older women, for whom he has a soft spot.

But soon Puck’s world is rocked, when he learns that a classmate, Quinn Fabray, is pregnant with his child after the two of them had a one night stand together, in which she was drunk. Once he finds out, he tells Quinn that he wants to be with her and raise the baby together, but she tells him that he’s not cut out for being a father, and that she chooses Finn over him. Puck responds with anger and spite towards Quinn, although he continues to hope that she’ll choose him.

The situation becomes increasingly more complicated when Quinn joins the glee club, in order to keep an eye on Finn. This gives Puck the chance to spend time with her and convince her that he fit to raise a baby. But things keep spiraling downwards, until Puck finally reveals to the glee kids that Quinn is pregnant. Oddly enough, although Puck seems determined to win Quinn over, later on, he temporarily forgets about Quinn and focuses on Rachel Berry, the so-called diva of the glee club.

This is because his mother really wants him to find a nice Jewish girl, which Rachel happens to be. The two of them end up making out, but Rachel realizes that she can’t continue because she wants to be with someone who has the guts to sing a solo. Instead of causing Puck to give up, he tries harder, buying Rachel a grape slushie and singing a solo dedicated to Rachel. But once it becomes official that Puck is dating Rachel, the guys on the football team get angry, and begin making Puck’s life miserable.

Things come to a head when the coach of the football team forces the guys to decide between glee and football. Surprisingly, Puck chooses glee club and Rachel, although their relationship quickly fizzles out because Rachel likes Finn more than Puck. Puck turns down Rachel’s offer to be friends because he is angry at being rejected by yet another girl who chose Finn over him.

Later on, Puck sees a chance to try and impress Quinn; he sees her get angry with Finn because he doesn’t have the money to cover Quinn’s doctor bills. Puck comes up with some money and gives it to Quinn, only for her to refuse it since it’s not enough. But he uses his charm to try and win Quinn over, to the point that the two almost kiss. Finn interrupts them before anything can happen, however.

Tensions continue to rise between Finn and Puck, when Puck gets tired of hearing Finn complain about the situation with Quinn, and the two of them have a fight in the school hallway. Later on, when the bake sale that was meant to raise money for the glee club is a success, Puck takes the money and gives it to Quinn, telling her that he’s no screw-up and that he knows he’d be a good father. This does impress Quinn somewhat, but things just don’t work out for Puck. Finn walks up then and tells Quinn he just got a job. She leaves with Finn, leaving Puck behind.

In spite of Quinn’s continued insistence that Finn is the father of her baby, Puck continues to do whatever he can to prove to Quinn that he can be a good father. Quinn begins to wonder whether she is being unfair to Puck, but she decides to test him to see whether or not he really is father material. Puck passes the test, and Quinn is impressed by him until she learns that while they were together, he was sending sexy text messages to Santana. Puck tries to defend himself, saying that Quinn has never opened up to him since the night they first had sex. He says that he’s a guy with needs, and she’s not giving him what he needs.

The drama continues until the truth about Quinn’s pregnancy is revealed. Puck and Quinn finally tell Finn the truth, and he tells them that he’s finished with them and with the glee club. In the aftermath of this, Puck goes to Quinn and offers his support, which she refuses, saying that she would rather go through the pregnancy on her own.

Things just go from bad to worse over the next few episodes, culminating in Puck losing his popularity after his mother shaved off his mohawk. Ironically, he ends up being thrown into a dumpster by the same people that he used to terrorize.

Fortunately for Puck, the first season ends on a relatively good note: Quinn has her daughter, and she is named Beth. And though the glee club did not win at regionals, the glee club was given another year. So a lot of momentous things happened to Puck during the first season, but his story doesn’t end there.

The story picks up again with the kids back at school, but nothing really huge happens to Puck until later on in the season, when Will tells the glee kids that Puck is in juvenile hall for driving his mom’s car into a convenience store and taking off with the ATM. Finally, when Puck returns from juvenile hall, he begins acting like a jerk again, bragging about how much he loved being in juvie. Later on, though, he tells Artie that he hated being there, that he got picked on, and that he figured out that he wasn’t as tough as he used to think.

But Puck continues to experience problems; when Will asks him to find a replacement for Kurt, he goes to the football team to see if any of the guys would join the glee club. This backfires on Puck, and he ends up locked in a porta-potty for about twenty-four hours. He makes the promise to be nicer to other Jews, since being nice to everyone would be too much for Puck. He is eventually rescued by Lauren Zizes, who becomes the twelfth member of the New Directions.

This sets the foundation for Puck’s interest in Lauren, and over the next two episodes, Puck begins working really hard to get Lauren to go out with him. He keeps pursuing her with several failed attempts until she finally agrees to go out on a date with him as friends. Things continue to get serious between them, and it seems that Puck really does have genuine feelings for Lauren, as evidenced by the fact that he wrote a song dedicated to her that was one of several potential choices to be sung by New Directions at the regionals competition. Eventually, the New Directions won, and it seemed that everything was going Puck’s way.

This is the point from which I will be playing him: after Lauren agreed to go out with him and after the win at regionals.

Abilities/Special Powers: Puck is an average guy with no supernatural abilities or powers, unless you count his hardcore badassness, his epic guitar playing, and his ability to get with just about any girl ever. Okay, maybe not so much with the last part, but he thinks he’s that good.
Third-Person Sample:
The whole world was just going his way. He’d gotten everything he wanted - the girl… no, the woman was his now, and the glee club had just won regionals. How could life be any better than this? Puck figured he should be happy and grinning ear to ear like the rest of the geeks and dorks that made up the glee club. But somehow, Puck just felt like something was not right.

At first, when he made this not-so-pleasant discovery, he tried to cover it up by storming around the school, slamming lockers, throwing slushies, and dumping Jacob Ben Israel in dumpsters like he used to do in the pre-glee-club days, but it just didn’t feel the same. His groove, or his badassery, or whatever it was, just wasn’t there, and if anything, that made Puck even more irritated!

So he sat himself down in his fancy, souped-up car, turned on some tunes, and tried to chill and hash out whatever the hell it was that was going on. Those damn glee kids sure had got under his skin; first there was Kurt, who got bullied out of the school. That didn’t sit well with him at all. Yeah, he was a bully himself, but that loser Karofsky crossed the line when he messed with Kurt.

Puck thought briefly about going and messing up Karofsky’s face, but then he remembered the hell that was juvie. “No way I’m going back there,” he muttered. That was part of the problem - he wasn’t scared of juvie, not really. He just knew he didn’t want to go back there, so for now, he was just gonna play it cool and avoid getting thrown back in the slammer. That meant getting his revenge on the jerks and losers on the football team was out of the question.

The minutes ticked by, but Puck wasn’t paying attention to the time. He had to figure out what it was that was making him so messed up in his mind. This wasn’t like him - he was supposed to be this chill guy who could get anything he wanted whenever he wanted it. And he had everything he wanted, but that didn’t explain why he felt like a piece of crap.

Puck banged his fist on the steering wheel. “Look at yourself, Puckasaurus. You keep this up, and you’ll be goin’ in to see a shrink.” He shook his head. No way was that happening. He made up his mind: he was just gonna suck this up, and just go bang a couple more lockers as a way of getting his frustrations out. And he had plenty of those. Just ‘cause he had the woman he wanted (damn, that Lauren sure was hot) didn’t mean he was pie-in-the-sky happy.

Watch yourself, William McKinley High School, the Puckster is on the roam, kicking ass and taking names.
First-Person Sample:
[Hear the sound of fingers tapping, then muttering that gradually grows louder in volume.]

Well, this sucks. Looks like I got landed in juvie again. Whoever ratted me out is gonna get it later.

Hey, anyone listening? I said this sucks! Or maybe no one’s listening. Maybe you’re all just a bunch of losers and mouth-breathers who can’t see past your noses.

Like I care who you are. Once I break out of here, I’m gonna go all Death Star on your asses. No one throws the Puckmeister in the slammer. That’s not how things work, got it?
