Review: This series has been on my too rec list for a long time. It is such an expansive story I'm not sure how to do it justice.
During the Quest Bofur accidentally finds out that Dwalin is trans. He handles it fairly well, but if that might be triggering for you, I suggest Skipping to Chapter 5 of the first story, Everything up to that follows canon, so you should be able to catch up easily enough and from there moving forward Bofur understands that Dwalin is male and treats him as such.
The rest of the series follows Bofur and Dwalin as they deal with the fall out of the Battle of the Five armies and their losses as well as Dwalin and Bofur's growing relationship.
There are still some parts after that where Dwalin is misgendered, but Dwalin and Bofur face them together and learn how to make each other stronger. As the stories build, we get to see more of Dwarf culture and politics. Dis is particularly becomes important as they try to figure out a way to rebuild Erebor.
Dwalin and Bofur's relationship builds and grows throughout as they learn about each others past traumas and help each other heal.
