Suddenly, Eric was struggling to contain his laughter.

If there's something I appreciate in Check Please! fanfiction, it's when authors include the setting as a major aspect of the story. Samwell is a university, and the Haus is definitely a frat house, so by their very nature they create a background to the Check Please! comic and the fanworks that is distinctly collegiate.
sarcasticfishes superbly balances the college atmosphere and the developing romance between Jack and Bitty. Even when it's very clearly the 'friends' portion of the 'friends to lovers' plotline, there's a subtle blush of romance in every scene. Oftentimes it's gentle, sometimes it's humorous or even difficult. But it's always sincere.
