Snorkfics (fic journal) Summary: When Minerva McGonagall discovers a cryptic note among Dumbledore's old papers, she finds herself investigating a mystery involving goblins, ancient runes, and Beedle the Bard, with the invaluable assistance of Percy Weasley.
Review: Percy cast a very powerful Lumos and used it to illuminate the passage. "There seems to be loads of rubble blocking it," he said, half disappointed and half relieved. "Even a house elf couldn't get through without crawling."
"An animal could."
"Well yes, but ..." Percy suddenly found himself talking to thin air. He looked down the tunnel and saw the tail of a cat disappearing round the first bend. "Oh. Right." He'd completely forgotten she could do that. "I'll just hang around here then, shall I?"
Reading this fic leaves me with the definite question of why there isn't more fic around teaming up Percy Weasley and Minerva McGonagall?! I really enjoyed the chance of both of them getting to be awesome here. McGonagall is poking through Dumbledore's old papers and discovers a Goblin mystery, Percy is now attached to the Goblin Liaison Office, and the investigative partnership kicks off from there. It kind of starts out as the tale of two efficient, academic, workaholic types communicating and being efficient, and works up to them having an Adventure! together in a fashion that's all kinds of adorable.
There's something refreshing about getting to see these sorts of characters have a chance to get excited about solving mysteries and go out and do things... while also, of course, attempting to be somewhat responsible about it and cover their backs along the way. As McGonagall notes in the course of the fic, Percy was the sort of person who would actually follow instructions, unlike certain former students she could think of!
...Although they do still manage to pretty much destroy everything in sight before the usual troublemakers arrive on scene. :D
