Jack's kind of an asshole for much of this story, his insecurity and jealousy being taken out on Bitty, for lack of a better coping method. It's a strange thing to watch from the outside, seeing Jack behave in such an unusually cruel way from Bitty's perspective, and yet knowing about Jack's emotions and motivations even as he makes an ass of himself.
This fic really hits what I feel is an inexplicably unexamined fact of the comic: of the two of them, Bitty is braver than Jack.
