Author's Summary: Chris carries the kid in on a rainy afternoon.

“Found him just outside the perimeter,” he says as he lowers the limp body onto one of the mattresses. “I’m not sure he’ll make it.”

Derek takes a look at the kid’s deathly pale skin, the black edges of his blunt fingernails, the long ragged gash running down his side, caked with dried blood and dirt, and for some reason he thinks, he’ll make it, all right.

Review:
I loved several thing about this: the world building (especially the with how much coffeeinallcaps packs into 4k words), the way Derek is able to make a difference in a place where losing almost everyone is a common tragedy, and Stiles' mistrustful and less talkative personality following his father's death (and almost dying himself). In a turnaround, Derek seems more grounded and emotionally open than Stiles, though Stiles does become more outgoing and snarky as he heals and joins the camp.

That said, if you like your stories to take every possibility to its final conclusion and go all out with emotional declarations, this isn't that sort of fic. It's very much a story for me, though. I like stoic characters and angst to really make sense for the plot, and given everything that's happened, they certainly do here, because you're dropped into the wake of a Were-war that's left a huge portion of the population dead. Stiles is unconscious and near death, and Derek decides to take care of him. That leads to the beautifully understated progression of their relationship, told from Derek's point of view.
