She can feel the wind whistling behind her. The gorge yawns below, lush forest and rocks and waterfall. Cora would call it beautiful. Alice sees only death.
Review:
Another angsty fic I enjoyed reading recently. I’ve long been a fan of the 1992 movie, Last of the Mohicans, and have always been fascinated by the character of Alice. She’s never a focus of the movie, but I’ve always felt she was probably the most changed of the two sisters by everything they witnessed and experienced. Cora always seemed stronger and the less sheltered of the two.
This piece gives us a beautiful and heartbreaking portrayal of Alice’s point of view, snippets from their childhood together, through to events pre movie and her observations and reactions to the events of the movie. The characterization is exactly in line with how I always pictured Alice. She is quiet, thoughtful, hesitant and content to go along with others, but in the end, just like in the movie, she finally makes her own choice, the ultimate choice over her own life and future. I enjoyed the writing style and the quiet, powerful way in which Alice makes her final decision.
