lorax Summary: "So this isn't a fake-out plot device. It's a cut-away fantasy sequence episode, where we feature a number of different unlikely sequences that provide a break from the regular format while still showing recognizable traits of the characters." Abed dreams about being the Inspector, and it starts a trend.
Review:
Community is very much a show for people who watch TV shows, and its use of meta and tropes sometimes makes it difficult to create fanworks. If you can imagine it, then it's been jossed
*, kripked
* or lampshaded
* already (often at the same time). If you go for straight up drama or romance, it feels overwrought; if you go for humor, it seems cracky and unrealistic; and if you go for meta, it's the psychic equivalent of staring at a Magic Eye poster too long: your head hurts and the whole thing doesn't seem very fun anymore. But sometimes, an author will hit the sweet spot between heart, great character interplay and straight-up crack that makes the show so damn great. This is one of those stories. "Dallased..." is 14,858 words of glorious meta crack, and kept me giggling all the way through to the end. The Community gang plays out fantasies set in different fandom, to hilarious effect. Abed's fourth-wall breakage is sharp and apt, and I got a real feel for the group as a whole and as individuals. There is a bit of a Troy/Abed/Annie OT3 vibe throughout the story that's adorable and awesome and I kind of want to read about their adventures forever. In conclusion, go read this. You won't regret it :)
