Losing the ability to talk doesn’t mean you can’t communicate even when you don’t intend to.
Imagine has long been one of my favorite authors in the Stargate SG-1 fandom, so when I stumbled upon this fic, which explores one of my favorite episodes from the show, “The Fifth Race”, I was overjoyed. Told from both Daniel and Jack’s perspectives, this fic doesn’t necessarily stray far from the episode - in fact, some of the dialogue is lifted from it - but it’s the things that aren’t said and the scenes that weren’t in it that make this story. Jack - whose voice, mind, and body are slowly being hijacked - is as desperate to be understood as Daniel is to ‘hear’ him and Imagine does a wonderful job making the reader understand that. Though there are a few cheesy and questionable moments in the story, fans of this pairing will definitely enjoy this episode re-telling with its Jack and Daniel twist.
