Review:
It's Valentine's Week at St. Jerome's school and someone has been sending out fake cards in other people's names. Now it's up to the detectives at Half-Moon Investigations to figure out who, but with Red acting strange and Fletcher missing a few very obvious clues, will it be as easy as all that?

'Half-Moon' is one of the smallest fandoms around, the majority of the fiction for it being written by this author, but even so, it's a gem of a small fandom with the potential to be so much more if given the chance. This fic is a prime example of why. Beginning and ending in a handful of days, 'Genius' is everything that I love about both the series its based on and the characters in it.

Quirky and distinctive, much like the original, this story doesn't get bogged down with taking itself too seriously even with the very minimal amount of angst it carries with it. It's all in good fun and that comes through in the writing, which is simple but well done, and fits with the flow of the story perfectly. The characterization is spot on, despite all the characters being a few years older than they are in canon, and its obvious that the author made the effort not to stray to far afield from who they are - Fletcher's still obsessed with being a detective and Red's still his best mate, partner-in-crime, and a Sharkey.

Though shorter and lighter than most of the stories I tend to rec, this one says everything it needs to in a short amount of time and will have you laughing, smiling, and even cringing (in good fun) from beginning to end. Those of you unfamiliar with the universe can also use this fic as a good gauge as to whether the television series (or novel by the same name) is for you, as the story is written in much the same style the show itself is.
