Summary: A few private moments for Lister and Ace

Review:

I'm not generally a big fan of MPREG fiction and have in fact been very rude about it in the past, but it just so happens that Red Dwarf is one of the very few fandoms in which MPREG is canon and so inevitably there are a few stories available on the subject.

This particular little vignette offers a charming picture of a heavily pregnant Lister (he's carrying twins, the 'father' of whom is his alternate-universe female counterpart Deb Lister), gloomily contemplating the imminent departure of his glamorous lover Ace - which will leave him to face the rigours of childbirth with no help but that of the Cat, the skutters, and the uncharismatic and generally useless Rimmer. It's no wonder Lister's feeling weepy and clingy and in the mood for a little tender affection from Ace.

And that, in a nutshell, is virtually all that happens in this story. There's a moment of vulnerability from Lister, a moment of reassurance from Ace, then the weary acceptance of inevitability. It's a little downbeat, to be honest, but not entirely without a spark of hope. It is, however, very well-written and offers a moment of tranquil insight that is rare in what is usually a knockabout slapstick fandom.
