RR -- Fluff

Aug 21, 2007 09:49

As folks who read my fic journal have probably guessed, life's been crazy for me lately.  Not bad, just...crazy.  It's making me a little hyper-critical (another reason why I'm having such a tough time finding fic to rec) and a little frustrated and right now I want nothing more than some good old-fashioned fluff.  Something that is fun and ( Read more... )

Well, I noticed you didn't have any Harry Potter tags, so I'm not sure how amenable you'd be to the fandom but...

Dumbledore's Folly by DementorDelta is a Snape/Harry courtship/marriage of convenience fic, very fluffy and one of my gloomy-day standbys.

And two of my SGA fluff favorites are A Supermarket in California by Taffetablue , a McShep AU,

and Lenore's 101 Ways To Get Lucky (in Love), another McShep AU.

You're not the first person to rec HP, but I find myself a little reluctant to try out the fandom because a) the only slash pairing I can personally get is Harry/Draco and the idea of Harry/Snape kind of weirds me out and b) I've gotten more and more disillusioned with each HP novel (to the extent that I haven't been able to bring myself to read Deathly Hollows yet). Of course, I'm running out of fic in my current major fandoms, so I'm going to have to break down soon and branch out. So, never fear, these HP fics will be read (and probably sooner rather than later:)

And you can never go wrong with McShep AUs! I loved A Supermarket in California and will no doubt be reccing it at some point (thanks for the link -- I think this is one of many, many SGA stories that isn't archived). Not sure about Lenore's fic. Is that the one where John's running a matchmaking service?

Thanks for the recs!

Lenore's fic is the one where Rodney is a businessman and John is a relationship coach, and Rodney decides he needs a wife.

And yeah, I can understand the disillusionment with HP-- I had it with OotP, but Deathly Hallows is a much better book than I was expecting. As for Snarry, well, it's definitely not for everyone. I have a lot of problems with H/D though as I just think Draco's a whiny little bastard. Harry/Ron is the only pairing I can really see, canonically, besides Sirius/Remus.

I can't really see H/D from the books, because Draco sucks in the books, but I do think they have chemistry in the movies. Ron has gotten on my nerves lately, primarily because Rowlings seems determined to pair him with Hermione, despite the fact that they have nothing in common and no chemistry in either the books or the movies. If I was going to pick a preferred pairing for HP, it would actually be Harry/Hermione (I *know*! It's been so long since I've read het, I don't know that I could figure out what to do with it if I saw it ( ... )

Well, it's still on-going, but over at mcshep_match, they're doing two sides to each challange catigory, Team Angst vs Team Romance. And while of course, Team Angst is Team Angst, Team Romance is very fluff. And very, very good, too. Fluff, in this case, is not just a trivialization. There are even a few long-ish fics, though no epics yet. The good are exelent, and while there have been a few that were not as good as the others, but even those were still very good. And all of them are worth reading for some good escape. (And don't forget to vote!)

Oo, that sounds promising. Are there any stories you think are particularly good?

Well, in the Team Romance catigory:

the first fic of the battle was cute: Clear Blue Skys, classic fluff!

And Catch 19 was exelent! I loved that one, very in chractor and natural.

Up To And Including The Blue Moon Ball was pure fluffy fun.

But if you want a little angst mixed in with yer happy endings, don't count out Team Angst:

Rock, Paper (No Scissors) was very well done.

And the first Team Angst fic of the battle, Acidimia, definatly worth the read.

They're posting new ones every day, and looking them over to select some highlights, I noticed I missed a few, so definaty worth go'n 'n reading them all...which I'm gunna do now! Gotta get the ones I missed...not sure how that happend!

Really cute story fit for the young adult genre. With vampires and an assortment of monsters (the non-scary variety). Just a dash of teenage angst (well, it is a story about teens). And fluff.
