Looking for suggestions

Hey folks,

I've been thinking about where this community is heading -- after all, there are only a limited number of epic stories out there, and they can't all be winners.  Ideally, I'd like us to continue to focus on longer stories, but I'm also hoping that the Reader's Recs portion of the community will get more significant, opening the community ( Read more... )

got here via your LJ.

recs: for different fandoms, notify whatever newsletter about the rec being done on your community... I know the spn newsletter has a section where recs are listed....

Yes, I do recognize your handle:)

As for the newsletters, can anyone post to them, or would my attempting to do so gett someone (or, you know, an entire fandom) pissed off at me? Good suggestion, though. As long as it's kosher with everyone, I'd be happy to give it a try.

Ah! Don't post to the newsletter comm itself - there are mods; I think it's more on the lines that you give 'em the link to the rec, and then they funnel it into the post whenever the next round-up is. I think trying to post TO the newsletter comm would get people ticked.

but - for Due South... There's LJ community "ds_noticeboard" - that you probably could post to - but, I don't see alot of posts about specific rec posts (I hope that made sense). I'm pretty sure you could promote your comm there.

I know there is a newsletter for SGA; not sure about other fandoms... (same thing; submit to mods or whatever the comm info says in the beginning and it'll (probably) get filtered into the comm).

... Not sure what else to tell you, actually. I tend to go to fic-posting comms more than anything.

Okay, so I just hit up ds_noticeboard (seemed like a good time, since we just wrapped up Due South week). I'm thinking I'll stick to one noticeboard comm a week -- that way I can try and come up with a specific gimmick that might not get me nagged at by the moderators:)

Thanks again for the suggestion!

I don't really remember how I found your comm, but I suppose it was either via DS or via TS...? I think there are newsletters for each fandom and you can let the editor/s know about this comm and the recs being done. Also there is TS news and also DS news (I think) where you could post a link to this comm yourself. And then there is an LJ called 'pimp my comm' or something which is extra for announcing new communities, but you would have to search this in the interests because I don't remember what it is called exactly. Hope that helps.

Hee! That sounds a lot like me -- storyfinder comms are a must for me, because my long term memory seems to last approximately ten minutes when it comes to LJ:)

Thanks for the tip on newsletter communities. I think I'm going to do some netsufing this weekend and see where I can get away with pimping:)

Sweet! Does that mean I won't need to submit anything to those two newsletters? (If so, great, as that takes care of all but two of my newsletter assignments:)

Glad to have you -- enjoy the recs!

Thank you! (I'm thinking of having a Sentinel Week sometime in August. I'll let you know if that works out.)
