Apparently AO3 now has an advanced search function (yay!), albeit one they aren't promoting very well.  What that search function doesn't have?  A way to search by fandom.  (WTF?!)

Then again, I can't figure out how the function works at all, since using "<1 month" and ">1 month" produces almost exactly the same set of results (featuring the same top five stories) when coupled with "rowling" and ">20000 words", and since I seriously doubt that even the Harry Potter fandom is capable of producing 500+ fics over 20,000+ words in a single month's time, I'm very dubious of those search results.  Maybe the reason they aren't promoting the advanced search function is that it still is in beta and doesn't actually work yet?

At any rate, I'm back to not having any reasonable way to keep abreast of new, long, completed fics posted in large fandoms (though if there's someone out there with organizational skills and time to kill, that's probably a nice niche for an LJ or DW comm; I'd help promote it).  If anyone has any ideas on alternative ways to approach the problem, I'd be thrilled to hear them (and be happy to provide an informative post for any working solution).
