I just kind of want to rant for a second, and I also haven't updated in ages so I thought I would. I don't expect anyone else to find this interesting.

Wednesday the 2nd was my last day of vacation for Christmas break, so I was relaxing and watching a Ninja Turtles marathon (all three live-action movies and every episode of the new cartoon so far). My friend texted me to let me know that a local, long-running and very popular comic book store was moving.

I checked the website, but it didn't say anything, and my friend told me he read it in the newspaper. So I went on the newspaper's website, found the article and started to read it.

Now, the final issue of The Amazing Spider-Man came out on Boxing Day. I got it a few days after that and I haven't gotten around to reading it yet. At the time the newspaper article was published, the issue had been out less than 10 days.

In the VERY FIRST SENTENCE of the article, the writer gave away the ending of Amazing Spider-Man. Not all of the details, mind (at least I don't think so; I only read far enough into the article to see what was going on with the comic book store. I scrolled down further to see that the store owner, I think, was discussing the ending, but I didn't read it). They did, however, spoil what happens to Peter Parker.

Now, maybe the ending of ASM was common knowledge to most people. I don't know. I did, however, intentionally try to avoid reading about it. I didn't read summaries or anything. It's just frustrating to me that they would spoil something SO RECENT and not even bother warning people that it was there. Like I said, it was the first sentence in the first paragraph, so even if you didn't click the link to read more of the article, you'd still be able to see the spoiler.

And it's not like this is just another comic book. This is it. The end of Peter Parker as Spider-Man. The last issue of a comic book that's 50 years old. So I'm a little upset.

What makes it even worse is that there was really no point for the spoiler to be there in the first place. The article was basically, "People were shocked at the end of Amazing Spider-Man. People are also shocked that the comic book store is moving." Then at the end the guy said some stuff about the ending, but like I said, I didn't read it. They included it to tie the article together, but it had nothing to do with the store moving.

It's like when episode summaries are posted online, and I try to avoid them because I want to be surprised when the episode airs, but people post them all over the place and don't warn. That happened just the other day. It sucks.

Anyway, that's all. I guess I should have read it by this point, but like I said, the issue came out December 26th, and the article was dated January 1. I just think that's too soon to start putting spoilers all over the place, especially for a comic this important.

spider-man, rant
