i hate my job

Dear everyone in the world,

If you ever find yourself desperate to be at the mall at say 9:22pm on a random Wednesday, at least pretend like you have some sense of purpose, whether it be at the mall at that present moment or just for your life in general. Here's the thing: the stores at the mall close at 9:30pm. This isn't a suggestion and it's not there for fun. It's not 9:30-ish, it's 9:30. Because after the store closes we still have things to do before we can leave. And I for one hate being there any longer than I have to, so it would be nice to get things done quickly. But I can't when you're still in the store wandering around slowly, touching everything all the while. Why do you do this? Are you going to buy something? No? Yes? WHAT ARE YOU DOING WHY DID YOU JUST UPEND THAT PILE FOR NO REASON I HATE YOU.

Also, don't give me a dirty look when I tell you the store is closing in 5 minutes and don't give my manager and I a dirty look 5 minutes after that when we tell you that the fitting rooms are closed, since at this point it is 9:30 and THAT IS WHEN THE STORE CLOSES. Look, I know maybe it's not your fault and you had no other time to get to the mall, and your only window was at 9:22pm on Wednesday. I don't make the rules, it's just how it works. The store has to close.

And don't try and haggle with me. Look, I'm sorry that some of the items are ridiculously overpriced. I don't set the prices. I work for a large corporation, and I just do what they tell me. And no, no matter how hard you try, I am not going to give you a lower price. Look, I feel you, I'm poor, and to be honest even I think some of the prices are a little much and I work here, but I can't do anything about it. I would also appreciate if, after you try and haggle with me, that you didn't attempt to do so again maybe 15 minutes later and expect a different result. There is a set price. And don't try and guilt me into lowering the price just for you by asking things like, "Oh, so you're not going to give me a good price for this?" Oh, I'm sorry, what was I thinking making the price of this? Here let me take half off! Because I run this company and I can do things like that! Oh wait, I'm actually a sales associate at a mall and I'd lose my job if I kept giving out random discounts.

That's it. And thanks for making me stay late just so you could purchase a single tshirt, priced $9.99 that also had an additional 50% off, bringing the total cost to about $5.24 after tax.

Love,
Kaitlin
