Autumn is now entering its final stages. I still have two pictures I want to get: one of the vine on the fence in my backyard, and something autumnal at Japan House. While we wait to see if I succeed, here is a picture taken on the way to work, and one on the way home:
These barren branches suggested an abstract treatment, emphasizing line and contrast.
I don't usually shoot into the setting sun, but this sweetgum tree caught my eye on the way out of work. By choosing the right viewpoint, I was able to control the area of direct sun reaching the sensor and maintain decent contrast through the image. (Edit 20101109: It occurred to me this morning that this image is a prime candidate for the Orton Technique, so I altered it thus and re-uploaded.)
