How I Spent My Semester

Nov 19, 2006 23:57

Salvation glows big.
Suspended there, in well-chosen light.
Someone said it once.
Someone said it right.
This is the world’s best cathedral.

This is my religion.
This dark cavernous space.
These bright places.
The transformation,
The truth.

I am praying hard,
Pushed against that familiar concept.
I am putting what hurt I have in here, what love I have.
I am having a relationship with religion.
I am having a relationship in well-chosen light.

My face is under all of this.
My body is under all of this.
I am the most genuine,
The most false.
I am louder, I am brighter,
I am devout.

The creation of the animal.
The miraculous mess.
The human experiment.
The woman who cried.

This is my religion.
This is why we do this.
This is me feeling you, finding you,
Holding you up.
This is me under here,
So genuine, so false.

I am praying hard in the well-chosen light.
For the love of this shining monster.
For the love of the simple and the spectacle.
Someone said it once.
Someone said it right.
Our lover, our friend, our church.
My palace, my beast.
The world’s best cathedral.
