My F-list this morning is chock full or rants and raves believing that American Idol is fixed and unfair and has a political agenda.
I should say I was pleased that Kris Allen won. And I say that NOT because I don't think Adam Lambert is talented. I do. He just wasn't my pick for an Amercian Idol. It has nothing to do with his sexuality. I got bored with the screaming and the tongue every week. Will I buy Kris' CD--probably. Will I buy Adam's CD-probably not--but I would go and see him in a stage play because that's where I think his true talent lies. Would I have bought Adam's CD if he was the winner. Still probably not. And Kris as the runner up-still probably. You see my point. After thousands of contestants I think most of the Top 12 are winners. They've all become household names and that is certainily a "win" in my book.
As far as Idol being "fixed"...well, until dialidol can be programmed so that every person can only vote once. There's no point in talking about it. Since I didn't vote at all this year I can't complain about who's booted or who stays. But I know what the voting public looks like, They're 13-15 year old girls who are staying up late and texting, calling in and computing their votes for the FULL two hours. After all, we know that 100million people didn't actually watch the show!! I don't believe those girlies care if Adam Lambert is gay or not. I don't believe they care if Kris Allen is married or not. They want a pretty picture to hang on their wall and some cutesy fluffy CD full of heartbreaking love songs. And that's what they'll get.
So...although I was expecting to read the kinds of posts I read this morning, I knew some would be disappointed...(it's all very similar to BrokeBack Mountain vs. Crash) I am surprised by the anger.
It's a TV show. These kids all have exposure now and the real test is to see what they choose to do with that exposure in the fall. That's what really makes them a star. Not the show itself.
So ladies, I encourage you to sip your coffee this morning and re-watch KISS performing with Adam Lambert (because that was truly MY favorite part!) and try to enjoy the day.
