Guys, I swear Jensen Ackles is my muse. Got some writing done during the commercials that I haven't been able to do all week.
So, as always
OMG guys, this episode rocked. I am so glad. I was so worried I was falling out of love with SPN and that was making me sad.
During the opening I saw Lexa Doig's name in the credits...which is funny cause
elayna88 and I were joking about how awesome it would be if Michael Shanks guest-starred as God on SPN (For the non-SG fans out there, Doig is married (I hope she still is?) to Michael Shanks, aka Daniel from Stargate SG-1).
Ok, stuff as I think of it. Don't expect any coherance, I'm still a zombie from the Phillies game last night...
Structurally we have a nice set up. Cas and Dean, Dean and Sam. Dean telling Sam what we all know, that they are each other's weakness, but forgetting they are also each other's strength, as he says at the end, they keep each other human.
When Dean was walking through post-apoc land, the whole Resident Evil send up? Guys, I've driven though neighborhoods that looked worse than that...or just like that, actually.
I think Jensen knocked the whole two Deans thing out of the park. Older!Dean had a deeper voice, but I would not accuse him of over-selling him at all. I loved how the two Deans sort of got along, yet still had conflict. It wasn't the obvious hate of the two Jack O'Neills for each other (sorry, there kinda has to be SG references) - and I'll reference meta that says Jack hates alt versions of himself cause he inherantly disliks himself. I think we can make a case here that Dean doesn't inherantly hate himself, but he does hate what he will become without Sam.
Without Sam he is that torturer from Hell. He needed Sam's absolution for that last season, because he was ashamed to be that man in front of Sam.
Alas, we didn't have the two Dean hug:) But one Dean handcuffing the other Dean...just as good ;) (Referencing the Trek episode with two Kirks here...)
Human!Cas---I kinda liked him. I'd dig a 2014Cas/2009Dean fic..and don't think they won't show up in about an hour. Man, the Cas/Dean shippers are scarily prolific. I don't mind as long as they stop calling it Dastiel. *headdesks* (That's how I know I'm an old fandom lady. I can't stand the blended names. 'Wincest' doesn't count:)
Ok, ok, let me continue...so I guess Chuck doesn't have his prophecy thing without the angels? Where did the angels go?
Lexa - Risa? Wow a kick ass woman. Too bad 2014!Dean betrays her along with Cas (hee, 2009!Dean 'even Cas!'). It would be kinda interesting if Dean meets her again in 2009...he knows her, she doesn't know him, maybe she has a military background...Crap, I may end up writing het again. Is her name Risa or Lisa? Reesa?
Lucifer!Sam? Oh, intriguing. He make judicious use of Sam's puppy eyes.
Of course, I could see how this episode was going to be used to bring the boys back together. When future!Dean says "I haven't talked to Sammy in 5 years" I'm like THAT is how you're going to change the future boys, together.
I kinda love the AU episodes. I like how this was similar to the Heroes episode that took place 5 years in the future and yet SO MUCH BETTER.
Ok, I'm sure there is stuff I'm forgetting, but as always, I reserve the right to talk, or fic about this later:)
EDIT: OMG, HOW COULD I FORGET ABOUT DEAN WEARING PINK PANTIES! OMG!!!!!
Oh, no spoilers for the promo for next week, but spoilers for a commericial I saw for Smallville. Space just in case:
