On Vox: Mini book reviews

Nov 26, 2007 11:08

Once again I present some mini book reviews. (I'll cut tag this in LJ as soon as I make it over there to edit.)

Forbidden Shores

Forbidden Shores. This book was incredibly erotic. I only picked it up because over at the Smart Bitches, Trashy Books blog they mentioned how the publisher's description totally didn't match the book and left out completely the m/m subplot.

Not only was it really hot, the author left me with some questions about character and plot. Why does Clarissa love March even after all he does? Why does March do what he does? How did the author manage to fit foreshadowing in with all that sex?

Supernatural: Witch's Canyon (Supernatural)
I picked up the latest Supernatural tie-in novel a few days after it came out. It reads more like a traditional horror novel than an episode of Supernatural. The body count is incredibly high. I think it was criticized on Amazon for not having enough Sam and Dean.

I enjoyed it though. I thought it was a better crafted book than Nevermore, the first Supernatural novel. I do think the author relied a bit too much on his Dues Ex Machina for the end though.

How does one get one of these SPN book writing deals, huh? :)

Legacy (The Sharing Knife #2)

Grabbed Bujold's latest from the library for the holiday break reading extravaganza. It's a very quick read.

I enjoyed this one much more than the first volume of the Sharing Knife. Now, the world is incredibly detailed and rich. The main male character Dag reminds me a bit too much of Caz from the Chalion books.

It's much lighter than most of what Bujold writes. I guess she might be a bit tired of torturing her characters so much.
