RAGE: Birds of Prey issue #109
OMG, I cannot tell you how angry this comic made me. I threw it on the table in disgust without even finishing it.
Ok, first of all, we get Oracle regalling a tale of when she first met Green Arrow and part of the narrative includes her referring to him as a sort of romantic hero, sweeping in and saving the day. I thought the language was funny and then I glanced down to the writer's name and noted it was NOT Gail Simone, instead it was a male author I had not heard of.
Skip to a bed scene of two lesbian characters, members of the Secret Six, Scandal and Knockout. I like the Secret Six and I like these two characters. Cue stupid pointless fight that has Knockout leaving in a pissed off range, played totally for laughs. (plus comments on the rest of the Secret Six, how Catman is going soft. Aka, destroying the great villain team created by Gail Simone...)
Skip a few pages later where Knockout is KILLED. Huge page of her lying there dead, blood everywhere. Not seeing her lover again before she dies to resolve the stupid fucking fight.
We get the lesbian eye-candy and then the requisite lesbian death. Plus we get Oracle trying to talk Black Canary out of marrying Green Arrow. It's just one huge book of cliches after another.
I think I'll be cancelling my subscription. I wonder if I can transfer it to Wonder Woman, I hear Gail Simone is writing that now.
