The semester's classes so far

My most recent programming assignment is somewhat interesting. However, the task of writing such a program was automated a long time ago. Either way, it'll be interesting to see who paid attention in Discrete Structures; the finite state machine is a simple, yet powerful tool. French is assigning busy work, which is a change from last year. It's moved from literary analysis to listening and grammar exercises, not that I mind much. Algorithms has some reasonably interesting problems, although there's quite a bit to do. I expect abstract algebra to have some similarly challenging material, but I have yet to see any new material. Combinatorics, on the other hand, does not appear to offer anything new in the near future. We have a substitute professor for the first two weeks, and he's going through the first chapter of the book, which contains the material discussed in every class that just kinda touches combinatorics. When the actual professor returns, she plans to discuss chapter one again. What fun. This looks like a good class for sitting in the back and reading or doing homework. Coding theory is about all the keeps me awake in the morning. It's a topic I got interested in over winter break last year, and even though I've studied a fair bit on my own, the class is actually moving forward enough to keep me awake (can't say the same for combinatorics and abstract algebra).
