The Multiple Personalities of Naia-Athena

Naia The Soprano
Yesterday evening, while Noah and I were making dinner in the kitchen, Naia was hanging out at the safety gate to the kitchen, testing out this new high-pitch screech she can do. She went from a soft screech, then went gradually louder a couple of times, as if testing out her vocals, then she went for the gusto and gave us a loud one. Noah and I looked at one another and tried not to make a huge thing out of it but we both had the "oh-oh" looks on our faces. We have just experienced Naia's first banshee screech she would be using at the most inopportune time in a place that requires dignity and has lots of people.

Naia The Explorer
For the longest time, Naia was just cruising along, refusing to walk. Everyone was a little concerned but not me! I knew what we would be in for if she started walking so I wanted to let nature take its course - we were so not ready to toddler-proof the house. Daycare teachers were commenting though they thought they were doing so in an encouraging manner. Noah was the "Walk Coach" and walked her everywhere he could. Then suddenly in a 3-day span, Naia just started taking off. She walked EVERYWHERE and refused to be "captured" into our embraces. When she gets tired, she resorts to begging to be picked up. She does not really get into things but she did start to explore the CD shelf and my food storage containers shelf. She also likes that she can now pull her books from her shelf and flip through them. Thank heavens we do not really have to put things away.

Naia The Imitator
Naia's fave words,
Naia - yaya
Socks = Zok!
Shoes = Ooooo . . .
Light = at
Bye = byyeeeeeee (looong e)
Hi = hhiiiiiiieeeee (looong e)
No More = ba ba (with the no more hand gesture)
Head = hay
Apple = Up-per
Ball = Booor
Cat = at
Dog = daw
Bee = zzzzzz (fore-finger moving in the air as if there is a bee)

I have officially stopped swearing at home because Naia is imitating everything we do. With all the things we have to do to get the house ready to be listed for sale, and the house hunting in Columbus, starting a new job, talking with the movers, interviewing realtors, I find myself needing to swear more but I guess this is a good time to change that bad habit.

F-I-S-H!

S-H-O-O-T!

Naia The Charmer
When we go to the store or shopping at the mall, she would be in the cart or her stroller and if during a pause, she would stare at people until they look at her. Then she would give them her big charming toothy smile and a coy dip in her head as if she is plain shy. So of course they would then say, "Aww . . . she is so sweet!" and Naia would revel in the attention. What a manipulative lil' girl! *evil bwah hah hah*

Naia The Neurotic Princess
"Must give me food now!"
"I am done with my food now!"
"Thou shall pick me up now!"
"Thou shall put me down now!"
"I am not sleepy now!"
"I am sleepy now!"
"Go away now!"
"Come back now!"

There is no concept of the time that needs to lapse between her request for a task and the completion of the task. Everything needs to be "now".
