Naia has her first set (3 in total) of immunization shots today for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertuss (DTP); Hepatitis B; Polio and Prevnar. She was such a brave baby and only fussed a little after each shot. I was so proud of her, my little tough cookie. She's also beginning to smile more and enjoys it when we play with, talk, or sing to her. Thankfully, she's beginning to sleep longer hours in the night, about 4-5 hours so I do get a 4-hours in every night and maybe 5 if I am lucky. So I try to steal a short nap with her during the day if I am not working which helps. I think this mother-daughter thing might be headed for better days! *grin* I still stand by my memory of the first 6 weeks though - it was TOUGH!
Speaking of being back at work, Naia's first day at daycare was not as bad as I thought. I really enjoyed being back at the office and getting into the pace of things. There are alot of new projects going on and I am getting more exposure now as an analyst so it's really nice to feel capable at something when I have been feeling so helpless as a new mom for a month and a half. I also miss my managers and colleagues and it was good to see everyone again. I am pumping 3 times at work and although the supply is still low (about 2.5-3 oz. each time), the daycare costs include formula so when Naia is there, we let her have formula. The nurse practitioner today advised that aside from the formula at daycare, that we should make up our minds as to whether Naia should nurse or be fed breastmilk via bottle. I had commented that Naia seems to be a less efficient sucker now that we've introduced bottles and she advised that I ONLY nurse when she is at home. Noah's not going to like that because he wants me to pump cus it takes lesser time. Also, there's no way to know if the baby is getting enough from my breasts since she takes 4 oz. bottles now. Well, I guess the ultimatum is either to let my milk supply diminish or continue nursing exclusively while at home to maintain supply. Seems to me that the choice is clear if we wish to continue giving Naia the benefits of breastmilk
Unfortunately on my 2nd day back at work, I got into an accident due to the icy roads. Thankfully, Naia was at the daycare and no one was hurt. I did not get a citation obviously because the roads were really bad and there were alot of accidents along I-57 that day but it is SUCH a bummer to have my car wrecked and to have to pay for damages for the car I hit through my insurance company. I do not understand that rule of thumb where if you are the person behind, you are automatically at fault. The mirror film of ice, plus the downhill incline, caused my brakes to not work at all. What was I do not, swerve onto the middle divider??? Our insurance premium is high enough as it is (I had gotten into other accidents where other people hit me) and for each claim they process for you, regardless of whose fault, it increases your premium. There was even once where I was being scammed by a pedestrian claimant and even though the police report indicated so, it still shows up as a claim request on our insurance records. I hate this car insurance business, it does not make sense to me at all. Insurance companies can employ scammers to jack up insurance premiums!
So I am without my car and am waiting to hear by Monday how long it will take for them to fix it. I know it will take quite a while because the damages were bad (the other vehicle was a higher vehicle and I went "under" it so the damages to my car were way worse than the other driver - maybe I should get a taller vehicle too) and we do not have car rental coverage so I have been checking rental rates online. That way I can get to work on Tuesday. Grr . . . it's like I went to work for two days this week just to pay the frickin claim! Might as well stay home!
