Only a few days after my three-year anniversary with LJ, I'm leaving. As of today, I am officially retiring this journal, creating a brand new DW journal under the name next_to_normal, and moving fully and permanently to Dreamwidth
( Read more... )
Oh! I'm gonna have to figure a way to easily follow you now you're on DW. I don't visit there enough. :/
That said, I get why you're doing this. And though it makes me sad, I hope it's something that will improve your mental health in the long-run. I think you're fab, and you deserve to be happy and content, which you obviously haven't been lately.
1. Go here to access your RSS feeds. 2. Down at the bottom, where it says "Add Feed by URL," paste this link: http://next-to-normal.dreamwidth.org/data/rss 3. My posts will show up in your LJ flist. You will have to go to Dreamwidth to comment, which you can do with a DW account, with your LJ account if you've set up an OpenID, or even anonymously.
:( :( I hope the extra space does give you a more philosophical view of things. :-)
Of course, the real problem now is what we call you. Nextie? NtN? Nex? The Poster Formerly Known As Eowyn?
I am also curious who's not on DW and doesn't have any plans to move
Me, for one. I've got my Open ID set up there in case I ever want to comment on a post someone makes which then gets linked to LJ, but I don't have an account.
It's apparently possible to get the public content of a Dreamwidth journal (or LiveJournal) as a syndicated RSS feed which can then be displayed on your Friends page in the other journal. I've been fiddling around with it and reading the FAQ but don't think I've understood it yet...

OMG this will be a major source of angst! I toyed with the idea of just going with my real first name, but... I am still hesitant about that one. At the moment I'm leaning toward NtN or Nex, but I'll probably always answer to Eowyn. (The name actually predates my time in Buffy fandom, and I'm not changing my email or IM accounts, so... lol.)
See my comment to Gabs about setting up the RSS feed.
The thing I am wondering is if I subscribe to your OpenID, will your LJ posts show up in my DW reading list? I don't think so, but we'll see... There may be experimentation involved.
I tried the RSS subscription thing: it said I had to give a name to the account, so I called it nexttonormal_dw (modelled on rahirah_dw).. It says it's on my friends list now, but so far nothing has shown up - I guess it might take a while rather than being instantaneous?
Nex sounds kind of cool and mysterious and a bit Goth... dunno if you'd consider this a good thing or a bad thing. :-)
Well, I haven't posted anything new to DW yet, just imported my old stuff, so maybe that's why... I'll try making an introductory post and see if the shows up.
I'm going to miss you! You were one of the first friendly faces that I got to know when I came here.. 9 months ago. (oh my god, has it been that long?) And your offer to beta for me was so kind, and your comments were really helpful even if I haven't posted it yet.
Obviously if fandom isn't bringing you any pleasure you should go and do what is best for yourself, and I'm not saying this to try to change your decision, BUT...
Please, please, please don't let "melancholy from feeling like I'm no longer a valuable part of fandom" be a factor in your leaving. Even if you don't feel useful, that doesn't mean you're not part of our community and we don't appreciate what you have to say, be it cooking or whatever. You're willing to filter to "avoid duplication and the things that were frustrating me about fandom" for yourself, and everyone should be responsible for the same, so don't feel like you were raining on anyone's parade

Awww, *hugs* and thanks for the kind words. My reply to Gabs explains how to get my posts in your flist if you don't want to get into DW.

Oh, no, it's much more self-absorbed than that, lol. It's more about my being a neurotic perfectionist, and I can't help comparing myself to other people and feeling like a failure. So it's really difficult to not feel like fandom at large is destroying what's left of my self-esteem with that kind of complex. My therapist and I are working on it. :)

Oh that makes more sense now. Well, just know that even if that is your reality right now, in my reality, you are awesome and have been a huge contributor to my fandom experience, and you will be missed. :)

Here's the best way to follow a DW journal:
1. Go here to access your RSS feeds.
2. Down at the bottom, where it says "Add Feed by URL," paste this link: http://next-to-normal.dreamwidth.org/data/rss
3. My posts will show up in your LJ flist. You will have to go to Dreamwidth to comment, which you can do with a DW account, with your LJ account if you've set up an OpenID, or even anonymously.
