Thank goodness THAT'S over...

And by "that," I mean the crappiest year ever. Goodbye, 2009. I will not miss you.

So, uh, happy belated holiday-of-your-choosing to everyone. Also, belated thank you to louise39 for the Christmas card and seductivembrace for the virtual presents. I seem to have completely missed the holiday season here on LJ. I ended up taking an unscheduled hiatus from teh internetz the past couple weeks, which was actually rather nice. Apparently, though, I was the only one, if the unbelievable volume of my flist is any indication, so I should be caught up by about March. That means you should give me a head's up if you've posted anything interesting and/or noteworthy since, oh, December 23rd, otherwise you may be getting comments on your Christmas fic around Easter. (Let us not even speak of buffyversetop5. I've almost made it through the recs from the classic round, and I'm not even going to attempt to dive into the current round until I'm caught up with my flist.)

To briefly recap, I went to my parents' house for Christmas, and we had our entire family over for Christmas Eve dinner. There's only 12 of us total, including both sides of the family, so it's not a big thing, although my dietary restrictions provided an interesting challenge for my mother. Christmas Day we went to my cousin's fiance's parents' house for dinner, which was slightly weird, since the family connection is a little remote there. I could understand my cousin's immediate family being invited, but my parents and me, too? Awkward, but like I said, there's not a lot of us, so I guess it didn't seem like a big deal to them.

I came home on Monday, and my mom came with me, since she has the week off between Christmas and New Year's. We had a lot more planned than we actually accomplished (mostly due to my not feeling well), but we did manage to get to the Botanic Garden to see their Christmas display, and the Renwick Gallery, a little-known but very cool branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. We also spent a lot of time laying on the sofa watching the Food Network, which might seem like a bad idea given my circumstances, but I think of it as vicarious eating. If I can't eat yummy, delicious food, at least I can watch other people make it.

My dad came down for New Year's Eve, and we went out for what turned out to be a really horrible dinner. Never going back to that place. Ah, well, we all agreed it was an appropriate end to a pretty crappy year. We did manage to make up for it with a nice dinner last night, after going to see the movie "Up in the Air," which I highly recommend. (You know how they say, "If you only see one movie this year..."? Well, I tend to actually do that, lol, so if I don't make it back to the theater for the rest of 2010, then I'm glad this was my one movie. Much more satisfying than the year I saw "Mamma Mia.")

In health news, I am still sick, and holiday eating certainly didn't make me feel any better. I'm probably the only person to have lost 4 pounds during the Christmas holiday season, but I still ate more than I usually do - and in particular, more of foods I probably ought to avoid. (Sidebar: My grandmother spent 3 days at our house, and still has no idea that I'm sick. It's not like we're even trying hard to keep it a secret at this point; she's just completely oblivious.) I went back to the doctor on Tuesday to report that anti-inflammatory #2 wasn't working any better than anti-inflammatory #1, so we are moving up to immunosuppressants. Woo! The doctor suggested we skip over the traditional immunosuppressants, which can take 6-8 weeks to show any sign of improvement (ugh, another 2 months of this? No thanks), and go right to the biologics, which will require me to go in every few weeks for 2 hours to get medicine via IV rather than taking pills. If it works, I should see results in 1-2 weeks, which would be lovely.

I am so not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. I can has more vacation plz?

vacation, parents, woe is me, movies, crohn's sucks
