Fic Recs!

Another rec post, because I don't know about you guys, but I needed a reminder that there's still good fic being written. I'd be surprised if anyone on my flist hasn't already read these fics, but oh well. I'll rec 'em anyway.

First up, two unique seasonal_spuffy entries, kallysten's (Don't) Call Me Love ( part 1 and part 2) and rahirah's The Hero of the Piece. The first might seem like an unusual choice for seasonal_spuffy, seeing as how Buffy is quite dead, and Spike is paired up with an OC Slayer named Cameron, but it's not quite as simple as that, because Cameron is the reincarnation of Buffy's soul. The story offers a deft exploration of complex emotions (with some light angst) as Spike's long-awaited second chance with Buffy doesn't go quite as he anticipated, and both he and Cameron must come to terms with how much of her is Buffy and how much is not.

Barb's fic, on the other hand, has quickly become one of my favorite amnesia!Spike fics ever. Barbverse Spike is always an interesting read, with his patchwork sense of morality, and the amnesia puts that into sharp relief. The conclusions he draws and the actions he takes are so very fallibly Spike, but I think what sets this fic apart from most amnesia fics (aside from being all-around brilliantly written) is his relationship with Buffy. So often, amnesia gets used as a device to get the couple together, but Barb of course is operating in her 'verse where they've been happily married for years, which provides a refreshing new dynamic to the usual trope.

And finally, I was going to wait until this fic was completed (some notion I had about not reccing WIPs until they were done), but why wait? Read it now! I'm talking about snickfic's Seraph, which is the bestest Spike&Dawn friendship mpreg genfic I ever read! Okay, it's also the only fic I've ever read in that category, but I read mpreg. And I liked it. That right there should tell you something, but if you really need more convincing, it's a great ensemble piece with spot-on dialogue and wonderful snark and a touching relationship that develops between Spike and the Scoobies. Plus, Spike being all weirdly maternal. :)
