Deluxe Editions

I still buy and collect music. My gripe as of late is the rising of deluxe edition albums. Years ago, Deluxe Editions were editions of an album out with certain to many benefits, usually an additional CD with about 6 to an album's worth of songs, downloadable content, music videos, et cetera. They were also reissued albums that were remastered and usually included another CD of b-sides, live recordings, DVDs, et cetera. These days, it seems like there is a new rehashed deluxe edition a week. Sometimes it's worth it to buy it, sometimes it's completely ridiculous. Good example: Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St. Not only was the album remastered, but the deluxe edition included a bonus disc with 9 songs that were instrumental outtakes with vocals added. +++ in my opinion. Bad example: The Who - Sells Out. The second disc is the same as the first, but the mono or stereo version... Now this idea might make some jizz at the thought of it, but personally, I'm not too thrilled. Nuff said. What's even worse than this practice is new albums that are released as standard and deluxe, the deluxe editions are sometimes no more than 2 songs, or worse, just a different packaging with very little to no incentive to buy otherwise. Anyway,I can go on with a list of bad examples... That's my gripe for the day. I'm just sayin', if you're going to make a deluxe edition, please make it worthwhile. Don't even get me started on "Super Deluxe Editions"!!!!
