So i’ve put off fixing teh gf’s coworker’s computer for a week or so that it’s been here but I finally started on it today.\
The problem was “It’ll boot up but freezes before windows, but it’s been in the garage for a year”
I go to boot it up and it’s got a short somewhere. Come to find out the neon bar things that whoever installed when building it were frayed on the power wires so it was grounding on the case
I removed them but then found that the power supply was fried. So I replaced the power supply with one of the dozen spares I have, then I put it all back together (the correct way) and it boots the Windows XP install CD, but says “No drives found”. Come to find out it’s a rather archaic motherboard with the very first incarnation of serial ATA so it needed drivers on FLOPPY to be loaded at boot time. So I dug up a floppy drive, plugged it in to my computer, downloaded the drives, wrote them to floppy disk, pplugged the floppy drive into their computer and loaded the drivers and off I go…
I will never forget why I stopped doing computer repair and entered the administrative side.
