I never argue for the side I believe in because I'm afraid I'll become too passionate in speech, and ruin the strength of my argument. So I usually make detached comments, but I feel like changing things in philosophy. (Mostly because I think I'll fail, so I might as well fail in style.)
Descartes says to doubt everything, synthesize logically in what to believe, and...
Well, I really dislike Descartes because most of his modern-day followers that I've come in contact with are rather like him. "Doubt everything", they say, only to retract their statements later. I really dislike Descartes, I suppose, because you can't doubt everything. It's not possible. You can't go on doubting everything. No one does it. It's pretentious to try. I don't care if I'm not making logical sense; I don't like deducting things the way Descartes does.
It's cowardly. It's like Hamlet--doubting everything so he doesn't act--and one cannot act if they doubt everything. Hamlet's not a coward, really, but he appears like one. He acts like one. And one only defines oneself in action.
SO HA I HATE DESCARTE--I really should stop ranting in the middle of the night.
It's not nice to insult dead people. :( And actually, I rather like Descartes' writing. His style is...cute.
On a side note, 1:19 to 2:05 of Tiny Vessels is pure...awesome.
