Help kick the bottle to the curb

Jan 09, 2009 21:16

Hi all! Got this email from Corporate Accountability International (which use to be know as Infact) this week asking for help get state governments to stop using bottled water in all its forms. The letter would be asking state governors to end current contracts with bottle water companies and use that moola to go towards improving state and national public water infrastructures. Check out the cut below if you want some more information : )

State governments are spending millions of taxpayer dollars each year to buy bottled water. Be it water coolers by the copier, or plastic bottles at state events, our elected leaders are choosing the bottle over the tap.

Wouldn't you agree that this sends the wrong message? After all, in many cases tap water comes from the very same source as bottled water.

So join us this month in asking all 50 governors to cancel their states' bottled water contracts and to invest state and national resources in our public water infrastructure.

We've made great progress working with mayors on water issues over the last six months -- more than 1,000 cities from Boston to St. Louis to San Francisco have resolved to end spending on bottled water. Now it's time for our governors to do the same. This letter is just the first step in a massive field campaign we're launching to move states to take leadership on this critical issue.

Please sign on to this letter that urges your governor to Think Outside the Bottle.

With President-elect Obama advancing a trillion-dollar investment in new infrastructure spending, now is a crucial moment to support our public water infrastructure.

Lend your name to the letter today and circulate it to your networks!

It is time to restore the nation's confidence in our public water supplies.

Onward,

Matt Wilson
Deputy Director
