Beowulf

I don't know why most people didn't like it. I thought that it was a wonderful take on that sinister legend, faithfully adapted for the animated screen by Neil Gaiman, the master of the epic Sandman comics and lately, Stardust.

The effects were stunning, even right down to Angelina Jolie's numerous displays of her jugs, and all the micro-expressions on the character's faces where very realistic. I also thought that the premise was subtle enough - on one hand a satisfying fantasy adventure, on the other a metaphor for hubris and retribution.

Caught the movie at Vivocity, that cavernous shopping mall by the harbour. I've come to enjoy wandering its triangle of broad avenues, peeking into tiny shops and empty restaurants, going up onto the sea-breeze roof. If you choose to have coffee you can sit on the terrace and watch the channel go by.

The place is designed for families; more so for couples. It allows an aimless, romantic notion to take seed, as if everyone around me is falling in love. Is that a sign to follow suit?
