I really, really need my computer back, but I just can't afford it right now. I still have to buy plane tickets to see my sister on her birthday in June. ::sigh::
The good news is that, after picking up extra hours at work for 19 days, I now have a week of Spring Break! Including WonderCon next weekend!
I need it, because my two favorite shows were awful this week.
So, like. This other SHIELD thing looked like it was going to be cool at first? But, no. It's just piling more shit on Fury. The MCU needs to stop trying to make him seem morally grey or what the fuck ever. There wouldn't be an Earth left if it wasn't for him. That makes me so angry, to start with. Then, like, the whole justification for having their secret little SHIELD party is... because Fury had too many secrets?! That is the stupidest fucking thing I have ever heard; I expect so much more of you Jed & Mo. Not to mention that fandom wanted Agent Weaver back SO BADLY 'cause she was cool, and you bring her back for fucking THIS. HDU! Her personality was completely different last week than that of previous episodes. And then they split up the teeeeeeeam AGAIN, no one likes this, duh, why did you think this was a good idea? And fucking Ward and Skye's dad, so gross, GO AWAY. Stop wasting screen time on this shit. The only good part was Talbot, bless ur heart Adrian Pasdar.
Grimm -- spoilers through "Double Date"
So, this whole episode was really gross. The idea of having a hermaphroditic character was SO COOL, except they went in a completely transphobic and disgusting direction with it. First of all, the fact that the wesen was treated as two different characters rather than one character with two possible genders is basically saying that trans and non-binary people have Dissociative Identity Disorder. That they don't know their own bodies, and that others know better, have the right to judge and administer treatment to them without their consent. Like, literally, they couldn't even come up with some magic spell fix-it nonsense; they straight-up eliminated the character's female half with a dose of very real-world hormones. I very much don't want to research this, but I'm sure this "solution" has been performed on many unwilling hermaphroditic and transgender people in horrific ways in real life far too many times. The fact that "male" was treated as the default was gross. The reinforcement that people who present gender in a different way are doing so to "trick" cis people was gross. The fact that Monroe was the only character to say that this was potentially morally "gray" (HA!) was gross. The subjugation and invalidation of the character of Stacy was gross. It was just GROSS, GROSS, GROSS.
I've also been trying not to judge, because there've only been 2 episodes, but I've been very disappointed by iZombie so far.
I did like the 2nd episode better than the first, so hopefully the trend continues. ::crosses fingers:: (Like, I'm not even sure if I want to bother with the iZombie panel at WonderCon or not.) I really don't connect with Rose McIvor at all as an actress. I find the character completely uninteresting. The whole show is kind of boring, really. It's a very watered-down version of zombieism, so much so that it reads to sis & I like they're vampires. It's just a relationship drama, which. Boooo-ring! I also begin to understand why some VM fans hated the voiceovers, because I really dislike them here. Another aspect of the show that really irritates me is the way her family and "friend" handle her obvious depression. They're basically telling her to get over it, and that's stupid.
On the plus side, sis & I have started watching Star Trek TOS, and frankly, I. LOVE. IT. I think I actually ship Spock/Uhura here more than nuTrek???? And I also see why people are clamoring so hard for Janice Rand to be in nuTrek. She is boss! Unsurprisingly, we basically coo over Sulu every time he is onscreen. (Is there Sulu/Rand fic???)
