I didn't know this was being timed. I coulda done better.
Finally watched Covert Affairs.
Decent show; not impressed. Then again, it hasn't had Oded or Sendhil yet. ALTHOUGH IT DID HAVE ENIS ESMER FUCK YEAH.
However, I was worried about how it would portray a female lead, since USA hasn't had many. NOT impressed. She's supposedly ridiculously competent in most of the fields, passing all the tests with flying colors... and she's not even recruited because of what she can do. She's recruited because of the man creepily stalking her. SHE IS BAIT.
There's also that "you are not dating a man! you are inherently broken!" vibe, which is icky.
I ALSO finally watched Rizzoli & Isles.
This is your standard crime show, nothing particularly special in that regard, however -- the show was created by a woman, from a book written by a woman, and YOU CAN TELL. SUPER HIGH MARKS passing the Bechdel test, and just in general, the way the two female leads (!!!!) interact was perfect in the pilot.
They're going for the odd-couple thing; Rizzoli is a cop, tough and brash and kind of in keeping with the "tomboy" thing, Isles is a polished, high-fashion-wearing coroner, who apparently has some measure of fame. My favorite exchange was: the two women lying side by side on a bed talking to each other. Not about work, just really talking. Example (paraphrasing, 'cause I don't remember the exact lines, of course):
Rizzoli: Did you ever have a crush on the same guy as your best friend?
Isles: [thinking] No.
Rizzoli: Did you ever have a best friend?
Isles: [more definite] No.
Rizzoli: You'd tell me if you were a cyborg, right?
Isles: No, I don't think so.
I mean, you see what happens? The scene starts out as a cliche -- two female friends competing over a man -- but the end result is the conversation being about the two of them, and extra-awesome besides.
