Maybe I'm just in a 'mad as hell & not gonna take it anymore' mood. I broke up with Private Practice tonight, too (it was after watching last week's DVRed episode). I know that none of you probably watches Private Practice (except for the Chris Lowell bits) so I'll say this -- they had a storyline in which two male characters literally competed over a female prize character. One of the male characters finally realized he was being a total asshole, so he magnanimously 'gave' the object woman to the other male character (thus making him even MORE of a jerky, oblivious asshole). Oh, also? It was two white guys and a woman of color.

A further article on how
Zack Whedon is writing those Terminator comics. They are Kyle-Reese-centric. It seems like they're moving beyond the Kyle-is-a-geek stereotype that has mysteriously occured in the past couple incarnations of the franchise. If so, FORTY EIGHT BILLION STARS.
Two stills from The Losers (aka The Zoe Saldana Is Awesome Movie) have been released!
Oh, Browncoats. You had a charity auction for
bean dip. (48 billion stars for you, as well.)

USA is
shuffling its show schedule to be more competitive with network TV. Not sure how I feel about this. Could be a ripple on the surface of the pond; could be epic & game-changing for the future of cable television.

Castle & multi-shipping:
This is a discussion about Beckett/Castle/Esposito/Ryan. I feel like I should start off with Esposito/Ryan, since I've previously talked about them in my LJ. But I'm actually going to start with the one that's canon UST - Beckett/Castle. I hate it. To grossly oversimply, she's 'too good' for him. IMO, Kate Beckett is 100% unicorns, grizzly bears, and ninjas, and she doesn't deserve to have a partner like Richard Castle inflicted on her either professionally or personally. She doesn't deserve a partner that she has to constantly babysit, outwit, or outmaneuver. She deserves an equal; someone who will challenge her & raise her game, yes, but not someone who will annoy her so much that she wants to rip his face off.
So now that we're firmly in the 'fanon' territory: Esposito/Ryan. I mean, it's the gimme pairing. Even the actors themselves have admitted (completely unprompted, might I add) that their characters are more or less married. This pairing works for me not because of longing glances or double entendres or flirt-fighting or whatever network tv decides counts as UST this week, but because they are partners -- they'll rib each other about stupid bullshit stuff, but when they decide they want to get something done, they get it done, whether it's closing a case or pulling one over on Castle for a change. (OMIGOD. That scene from 'When the Bough Breaks'? When Castle shows up late to the crime scene? PERFECTION.)
And Esposito & Ryan have a kind of interesting relationship with Beckett, because she's their coworker, and they have a certain level of comaraderie, but she is also female and has more seniority than they do, so there's also a certain level of awkward. They can't tease her as much as they'd rib each other, or a male coworker, but they can't not include her, either. There are tiny, hypothetical lines drawn about who can say what to whom, and in what tone of voice, and with which gestures. And Esposito crosses those lines a lot more often than Ryan does. Maybe that's just the nature of his character, but we do know that Esposito thinks Beckett's hot canonically ('Deep in Death', and that was before she took off her shirt & her pants). And then an episode later, in Vampire Weekend, when Esposito's trying to get Beckett to go to Castle's Halloween party? And he's like, trying to intrigue her with his super-awesome Halloween costume? That whole "you wanna know, you gotta show" thing was AWESOME.
These opinions have actually been formed in the order I've presented them: Beckett/Castle DNW, Esposito/Ryan DO WANT, Beckett/Esposito HMM KINDA HOT. And the thing is, I usually hate leftover pairings (Jules/Gus, what's that all about?!), but Castle/Ryan makes a strange kind of sense. I mean, one of the show's reasons Why Kate Beckett Is Secretly Lusting over Richard Castle is that she's a fan of his work -- well, we've seen Ryan carrying around his books on at least two different occasions (that I know of). I think it's safe to say that there's at least a teensy smidge of hero worship there. And then Nathan Fillion
tweets this, which is adorable, and Castle is seen giving Ryan a cup of coffee in 'One Man's Treasure'. The viewer knows that Castle had made it for himself, and simply not had time to drink it, but Esposito is totally jealous and is all, "He doesn't make me coffee." Implying that Castle has shown Ryan the same favoritism before? I THINK SO.
There was going to be more about how Beckett/Esposito/Ryan & Castle/Esposito/Ryan are both nice, but I am sleepy & getting up early-ish tomorrow.
In summation, Beckett always tops. The end.
