[Lyle was well-aquainted enough with Nena's style of knocking to know who it was by now, and he came to the door of the flat with a well-practised, wry grin on his face and the local pizza take-out menu in his hand.]

Option two, Tieria commits seppuku to avoid the awkwardness. Do you know, he asked me if I was drunk when I tried to make a metaphor about how awkward it is up there right now?
