Sorry to be so long in replying! Gosh, there are such a lot of lovely possibilities.... ;-)

Well, my personal inclination is to see Rodney as a sensationalist, more of a bottom than a sub, but perfectly willing to sub to a point if it means more/longer sensation, better orgasms or a satisfied pliable partner. His self-esteem varies, in that he has confidence he can do well but doubts that he is good/loveable/attractive. I see John, on the other hand, as both a sub & a bottom for more "psychological" reasons. I think he suffers from guilt, self-doubt, self-recrimination, emotional & physical disassociation/numbing, & exhaustion/overwork/burnout. He'd fight against trusting a dom/top but, once John gave up control, he could "go too deep" or obsess about his partner. However, I can't imagine a responsible partner would try to play with John hard or for long periods of time while he's on duty or even "on call."

I think John would respond positively to brief bondage to make him feel (either pleasure or pain) deeply & without intellectualizing. I have difficulty seeing the point of denial as a submissive act from John (e.g., cockring or chastity device). I'd love to see Rodney either restrain John & tease/torment him, or order John to be still & use a vibrator or clips/clamps or other sensation-enhancing toy(s) on him, to overcome his self-control. (Pegasus-equivalents of figging or wintergreen oil, anyone? >:-)

But see, all this is based on my conceptions of who John is, what he'd like, what Rodney would like to do to him, what Rodney thinks would be good for John, & so on. Who knows, it could be a radically erotic act for Rodney to force John to stay still & receive a sensual massage with a vibrator until he's so relaxed he falls asleep. I can believe a lot of different scenarios if they're internally consistent & don't contradict the characters or their setting too severely. So, do what you think is best! I bet it will be yummy....
