Hi, internet! Remember the times when I did more than pop in once or twice a month to talk about tv before vanishing into the ether again? Yeah, me neither. /o\
So! Now I'm going to pop in to talk about tv before vanishing into the ether again!
This... This is not a happy post. Fair warning, lest I harsh whatever buzz anyone has going on.
Ughhhhhhh, so many concerns. The thing is, I give approximately zero fucks about plot. NAZI GOLD ART was their big finale piece last season. Complete with U-BOAT. I'm willing to go along with basically WHATEVER THEY THROW AT ME here. The plot is there for me to lovingly scoff at while I watch awesome characters being awesome because, despite the Herculean effort of hoisting up my disbelief, the one thing White Collar has been kickass at is characters and relationships. And I'm desperately worried that they shot all of that in the foot at the end of last season.
I'm not buying for a second that after two seasons of trust-building in every way except literal trust falls that Peter would be this kind of convinced that Neal's guilty. Reasonable doubt, sure; suspicion in the face of that kind of evidence, yeah. Neal is a conman and Peter is not an idiot. But for him to pursue it with so much conviction? Nope, not following you there. (I will give points for how hard he's trying to keep it away from the FBI, though. Worrying that Neal did a bad bad thing but refusing to bring outside attention to it until he's absolutely certain, that's the Peter I know.)
I also refuse to purchase the idea that Neal is going to throw away everything and run off now, not for a bunch of art. Peter was important enough to have Neal reconsidering whether or not he could/would go away with Kate. I don't care how big the score is, I cannot accept that money is a bigger deal than that. (Also: ART STOLEN BY NAZIS. Adds a whole other level of NO to it.)
The writers have enough of good will stored up that I'm willing to play along and believe that they can work it out. I can even see ways they could swing it so it all makes sense. But this feels exactly like the kind of 180 turn/case of miscommunication stupids that they've been so excellent at sidestepping in the past. I have some serious doubts right now. :/
