Why is it always Lovecraft?

Why do things have to go exactly the way I figure they will? Just once, really, I'd like to have been wrong about this and would happily accept it.

No, of COURSE the cult wasn't killing uninvolved persons to distract us from the real plan. No, the city wasn't slowly being brought over into the ocean to prepare for Father Dagon's entry into this world. And NO, Lovecraftian horrors are not following me and setting up residence in this city.

...please? Can this have just all been a bad dream, and when I wake up I find that we have just the same regular everyday issues again. Or at least have them be more managable. The soul... that... it just wasn't right. ISN'T right! No matter how many of those damn altars I find and destroy, I don't feel any better. Charcharidon is still out there, though he CLAIMS that he's not going to make another attempt. The CULTISTS who followed willingly may not be all gone, and if they aren't then they may continue the work regardless. Anyone who would willingly become an ABOMINATION; who knowingly and willingly did a ritual at the cost of someone's soul for no great benefit...

Oh Lord, what can I do?
