Who: Everyone! Where: The chessboard hills When: Monday, June 26, all day Rating: PG-13 to be safe Summary: Tweedledee and Tweedledum have agreed to have a battle The Story: ( And everyone is invited, whether they like it or not )
Elaine is already waiting. Her name had been on that list, to her great surprise, and so had some of her friends'. She sits on the square that was assigned to her, trying hard not to feel nervous, fiddling idly with her armband. It's really close to ten, or at least it feels far too close.
She wonders who they'll be fighting, or if her mirror is in on the board. And she already settles it in her mind: she'll do her best to get them through the game, even if it means killing mirrors. She looks around for her friends.
Minato had been standing in the corner of the board, the proper starting place for any good Rook or Castle piece. How appropriate in ways as he liked to blend in with the background. His eyes moved toward the stands and to the players on the field. Some of his friends were also part of the game, mirrors included.
He headed up to the top most edge of his square to his friend who had been assigned the position of Pawn.
Minato nodded, glad to know that she was close by, along with Poland. He was ready, but whether he was going to use his Evoker, he was still unsure. He didn't know all of the players on the field or their abilities. And fighting unfairly was something Minato didn't want to do.
"Mn. I think so. We have to be."
The blue-haired teenager looked up toward the stands.
"We're existing in the same place as our mirrors. Like last time."
It was odd, everything he had been told about the mirrors was that they were to switch, and only one or the other could exist on one side at one time. Wonderland never ceased to surprise him.
At the mention of mirrors, her jaw tighted slightly, and her eyes narrowed. "Tell me about it." She refused to look up at the stands though- she had already glimpsed her mirror's wings- instead turning to look away from them. She was unaware than her own posture at the moment resembled her mirror's.
"You're friends with some of the mirrors, aren't you?"
Not very many people in Wonderland had wings, and he thought he saw Elaine's mirror up there. He thought back to the scratched up glass mirror, and then turned back to her to address her question.
"A few." Or he would like to think he was friends with the ones he kept in touch with. He pointed out his own mirror who was a Pawn across the way on the other team. "Like with mine."
She followed his point to examine his mirror for a distance. Of course, he looked similar to the real Minato. He huffed slightly. "This is important." She turned to face him again. "If you end up on the same square as him... what will you do?"
That was a good question, a question Minato hoped that he didn't have to answer. It had crossed his mind though. Either possibility had meant a benefit for the other and obviously a huge disadvantage for the other. He also had to consider the prize for his team; he was fighting for all of them, not just himself.
"... I'd let him win."
He knew he had to give a bit more of an explanation.
"But he wouldn't allow that. He'd intentionally lose instead."
She huffed again. "If you already know that then there's no point letting him win. There isn't even any point in trying." She uncrossed her arms, and her tone was a little grumpy. With effort, she calmed. "I can understand not wanting to hurt him." She glanced up at the stands. "Maybe I'm just biased because I hate my mirror so much. I'm not asking you to kill him, just hurt him enough to win."
The situation was tough. Minato had felt conflicted, though he knew his loyalties lie with the real side, even if he never did like to refer to it as the "real" side.
"It's okay. I understand. He'd let me hurt him. I'd win if we ever did fight."
And the situation really had gotten tougher. Not everyone liked their mirror or was... lucky, if that was the correct term, in having a mirror that was somewhat reasonable to deal with.
"I think I met your mirror once. She responded to me."
She wants to drive the point home. "If you let him win, Minato, then I'd kill him anyway for hurting you." She looks away suddenly, upset. "...I'm tense. I'm sorry. But I do mean that."
Elaine wouldn't have used the word unlucky. She would have said Eve was a terrible person, but that had nothing to do with luck. It was all choice, from her point of view. She sighed, still never looking directly at the bleachers. "What did she say?"
Minato nodded, understanding her need to say it. He knew that if it came to that, he would have to try and stop her from killing him. He would have stopped anyone from killing someone else no matter who it was.
"I know, it's okay. Thank you." It was reassuring to know that he had friends who had his back.
Minato knew he had to tell her what it was that her mirror had mentioned. She had a right to know. "Nothing much. Only that she gave away a planet. And she dislikes other mirrors."
They'd probably end up arguing about that someday, but right now she only smiles warily, and a little embarrassed, when he thanks her.
Her smile tightened. "I thought she might say that. What did she mean that she dislikes mirrors?" Well, Elaine could guess. After all, Eve struck her as the kind of person who dislikes most things.
If they argued, then it would just that, an argument. But it wouldn't have affected their friendship. Minato thought their friendship meant more than that.
"Something about them being fake. She mentioned a Lucifer who was here."
It did seem to make some sense, if Elaine had been part angel. But exactly this person was related or had meant to the younger girl was something the mirror hadn't revealed.
All true for Elaine as well, although she wasn't above disobeying him to get what she wanted. She thought he might actually feel that way too.
"...He was here, for a while. What did she say about him?" It had never occurred to Elaine that her mirror would have an opinion on Lucifer as well, but now Elaine realizes that of course she would. And she wondered how similar that opinion was to hers.

"Elaine. How are you holding up?"

She stood, walking overto the edge of her square as well, and crossed her arms. Her gaze intentionally fell to his evoker. "Ready to fight?"
