Jack had nothing better to do than stare out the window, since he certainly wasn't sleeping. He saw Delta head out into the woods and blinked himself out of his stupor--maybe a nice midnight chat with Johnny would be just the thing. It would break the monotony, and he'd come to find these talks with his friend quite soothing.
It was cooler at night now, and Jack took a moment to stagger upright and put on a sweater before yawning into his elbow and calling a soft "C'mon" to Celeste. From there, he headed out into the night.
Delta's silence was broken by the soft sound of footsteps against the leaflitter, quiet and rocking, the sound of someone accustomed to moving with stealth but not trying to be stealthy.

Delta was accustom to paying attention to his surroundings. He opened the pack of cigarettes, but he stopped as he heard the footsteps. What was that? He flickered on his flashlight and shined the light in the direction of the noise. His body tensed for a moment. Delta was quick to think things as threats.
He noticed the friendly face after he shined the light in his direction. Oh. It was only Jack, but he wasn't about to take off his helmet to smoke with him around. Sure, everyone had seen his face before after his helmet was wrenched off, but he still tried to minimize showing his disfigured features.
Delta lazily waved to Jack. He was tired. It was pretty obvious in his posture.

Jack didn't look much better. Once he reached a tree near enough to converse comfortably with Delta, he staggered and leaned against it, eyes sliding half-shut. Celeste, close at his heels, bared her teeth in an enormous doggy yawn.
He looked at Celeste. Even she seemed tired with that yawn. This entire situation was just exhausting. Well, at least it wasn't as bad as the last few events. He could deal with exhaustion. After this event he'd sleep well, very well. All he wanted to do was crawl in bed and sleep until noon.
"I'm all right. I don't know why I didn't think to come out here earlier. I don't like it in there, with all the machines and the wires and the tubes. It makes me--"
He shuddered.
"I just don't like it. Maybe I'll just stay outside for the rest of the event."
Delta did agree with Jack. The wires and the clinical setting did little to make him feel at ease. He trusted one of the doctors here, but the machines and such were all reminders of the past. Sure he didn't recall the past, but he knew what happened to him.
I don't like it either, but we can't just stay outside.
He then gingerly leaned towards them to try and get Cele to smell his hand.
He smelled rather strange, and he was very large indeed, but Celeste sensed no unease from Jack, and stretched her nose out cautiously. Upon reaching the giant's finger, she flinched back, then cautiously sniffed, her tail beginning to wag.
Delta leaned forward further and tried to pet the canine on the head. He was wary. The dog could snap back and bite him, but Celeste's tail was wagging.
We need to eat.
Yes, they did. They could always take trips into the mansion to find food. Wasn't this turning into a regular camping trip?
She huffed through her nose, momentarily discomfited at being stroked by what was clearly not an ordinary hand--but then, upon reflection, or such reflection as the pup was capable of, it was also a hand full of interesting textures and scratchy bits, and she warmed to the situation quickly.
"That's all right. I'll go collect some food from the kitchen, and we can stay out here. Can't we?" His gaze was almost pleading; camping trip indeed.
Can't we? He would have to eat in front of Jack then, but the boy was nearly pleading to him. Delta just couldn't turn him down. Still, what about the kittens?
I need to feed the cats, too.
He kept petting the dog quite contently. Delta liked animals.
Delta nodded. All right. He shifted to try and scratch the doggy under her chin.
All right. Sure.
That gleaming excitement was hard for him to turn down. He didn't really mind staying outside. The outdoors were better than dealing with the hospital smell and the mansion.
Oh, this was nice. Celeste let her tongue loll out happily.
"I'd better make her stay, she might chase the kittens." And he clicked his tongue, causing the pup to drop to her haunches.
And off we go to feed kittens, which we shall say was uneventful. Jack, meanwhile, exited the mansion with a collection of curtain rods and bedsheets, explaining to Delta with sleepy enthusiasm exactly how he was sure he could make a tent.
The kitten time came and went. Delta was left with curtain rods and bedsheets. Okay. He also thought about making a fire. The weather was fairly warm, but it was still a good idea to have a blaze going.
"Yes." Jack, clearly feeling better with something to do, has begun digging small holes in the earth and trying to jam the curtain rods into them. "I don't think the Mansion would let us burn down the forest."
Delta looked at the trees. Great. He likely had to cut one down to get firewood. That would be a bit of a problem, so instead he tried to gather what logs and branches he could. Hmm. He wasn't very adept at keeping a fire contained, but he tried to organize the wood chunks into a small structure.
Hopefully he wouldn't light the forest on fire. He at least made sure to clear the leaf-litter from the area around the unlit campfire.
