If Sinclair thought his nerves were wrenching at him, they were nothing compared to what Rogue had been feeling for the past few days on end. On one hand, it meant an end to her constant worries. It meant not having to stay away from terribly crowded areas. It meant not wearing layers of thick clothing in the dead heat of summer. It meant a freedom she hadn't known since childhood.

On the other hand, she'd have a goddamn slug in her stomach. It made her insides crawl in a sick mockery of the concept every time she thought about it. She didn't understand how this could work, and somewhere in the back of her mind, she was still doubting that it would. She had to keep reminding herself that death wasn't permanent in this place, but that was far less comforting than she'd originally hoped ( ... )

He takes a deep breath before opening the door, lighting a cigarette quickly and throwing the ashtray on his desk into the closet ( ... )

Rogue really wasn't sure how she felt about that smile. Should she be relieved that he was confident in what he was doing, or disturbed that he'd done it enough to reach such confidence. She pushed it to the back of her thoughts and took a few small steps inside when he beckoned.

Though her gaze was initially drawn to the seascape outside, it inevitably pulled to the plasmids lining the shelf. They seemed incredibly sinister somehow, and she couldn't suppress the little shudder that passed through her.

Unbidden, she thought of Angel; sweet little Angel, and her descriptions of cruel, torturous experimentation and life in a cage. Then she remembered Logan, and the rumors that his adamantine skeleton had been the result of a harrowing medical procedure. She was working herself up too easily with this line of thinking, and before she knew it, she was visibly trembling as she stared around the room.

She crossed her arms tightly to try and mask the shaking, turning a wide-eyed stare on Sinclair.

"Ahh... on the bed?"

Well, that hadn't taken long. Her trembling is easily caught and he wonders if she's been experimented on before.

And then he wonders if she'd have been had she lived in Rapture.

He raises an eyebrow. "Mmhm. You know, you don't have t'be doin' this. It's completely up t'you."
