Summary: Okita got himself lost following a dead friend: Kaylee goes to find him with Howl's help.
the Story: The woods were really rather peaceful. Okita leaned back against the rough bark of one of the larger trees, heedless of the moss stains it left on his back, and stared up at the dappled green canopy. Seeing Yamanami once more... Wounds of the heart, indeed. He had no right at all to bear that one. After all, he'd struck both blows to kill his old friend, and he'd known in advance that at least one would be required of him.
It still felt as though a file had been pulled over a barely-scabbed wound.
He sighed, one hand absently going up to the cheek where blood from the beheading had splattered. It had been years. He only wished that he'd been able to catch the shade he followed. He had so many questions.... Consigned to something that was not quite the afterlife, would he ever have a chance to see his friend again, and ask?
Death had promised that those caught here would eventually go on to whatever waited for them. Okita wasn't sure if he wanted or feared that fate, but right now the balance tipped towards desire.
Somewhere among the trees, a bird called. Okita let his hand fall from his cheek, and turned his head to look for the source of the sound, smiling again.
