[Click. Click. Clickclickclickclick - she's still trying to figure it out. Clearly.]

dfsasaaaaaaa;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

[click. Voice!]

Now this is terribly curious, isn’t it? [There’s a loud rustling as Alice maneuvers the oh so foreign device she's been gifted with, and then there’s a loud exclamation that denotes an ‘aha!’ moment.

…It’ ( Read more... )

[Um.]

Are you okay? [Because seriously, the way you're talking is really weird.]

[She gasps again, oh my - it's just the most marvelous thing, this little box.]

Oh, why yes, my little magical box, I do so appreciate your inquiry as to my health!

[Yeah, Maxine is really wondering if something is up with this girl.]

You're welcome, but I'm not the communicator. I'm using it to talk to you.

Well, isn't that terribly novel? How does it work, I wonder...?

[brb trying to take it apart]

Where are the wires--

[Hjhdsghdfgsj trying to take it apart is NOT a good idea when you have no idea what you're doing.]

Uh, you probably shouldn't try to take it apart. You might not be able to piece it back together.

Hm. Excellent point.

[But she still wants to know. Hm.]

Well, I suppose all in good time, yes?

Sounds about right. Either way, it's not that hard to figure out how to use it. The technology is totally retro.

[She's slowly getting it!]

Retro? Whatever do you mean? [d0od wat r ur slang]

Retro. It, uh...means that something's really old. Outdated. Stuff like that.

Oh, why this is terribly far ahead of it's time! I've nothing such as this back in England. Mother would be appalled, I think.

[The way she's talking is enough to suggest it, and considering how timelines are apparently slagged in this place...]

...What year is it? Where you're from, I mean.

Why, it's 1865 of course!

[Um...wow.]

Yeah, I guess this would be pretty schway to you, then. In the time I'm from, the technology is way more advanced.

[Wait... Slang. Right.]

'Schway' means that something is good, cool, interesting...whatever kind of term you'd normally use for that sort of thing. [Ah, it feels so weird trying to explain this to someone.]

When are you from? [The fact that this person is stating she might possibly be from a different time, world, or dimension doesn't seem to even remotely bother Alice.]

Ah, I shall make a note of that term - have you any others I should know about?

The future. Really far in the future. [Far from the point Alice is in, anyway.

...And now Alice is asking her for other slang terms. This should be interesting.]

Well, there are a few. I already explained "schway" and "retro."

[Maxine starts counting them off with her fingers, even if Alice can't see it.]

There's "slag", which is basically a kind of expletive. Then there's "twip" - that one is basically an insult that implies that somebody's immature, or something. There's also "dreg", that one describes somebody who's good-for-nothing. A lowlife.

Hm...what else? [Max thinks on this for a moment.] I can't think of any others right now, but if I remember them, I'll let you know.

Truly? Have they tea, still? [Tea is terribly important.]

Oh my, that's a decent bit to get started, I think. I shall have to remember all of them, since it seems as if there are those here that might use such words, like yourself.

Oh, I would so appreciate it!
