Apparently while I was on vacation half the damn world signed up for
foursquare, a dodgeball-esque app from the creators of dodgeball. My understanding is somehow they use twitter to distribute checkins via SMS to avoid paying the SMS costs themselves. This is also the part I am unclear on, because it isn't explained anywhere on the site as far as I can tell.
Anyway, my thought is that it might be best to create a new twitter account to funnel this traffic through so as not to pollute my regular account with checkin noise that nobody outside of Seattle cares about. Those of you who use the service: is this a good idea? Also I understand it's possible to move updates via DM rather than regular feed posts, but I'd rather be able to refer back to my DM outbox without a bunch of garbage in the way.
Any other discussion of the service would be appreciated, too; I totally feel like I'm behind on what might actually be a reasonable replacement for dodgeball.
